{"id":301,"date":"2008-07-01T09:27:10","date_gmt":"2008-07-01T07:27:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.henriska.com\/blog\/?p=301"},"modified":"2008-07-01T09:27:10","modified_gmt":"2008-07-01T07:27:10","slug":"can-social-networking-tools-replace-e-mail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.henriska.com\/blog\/2008\/07\/can-social-networking-tools-replace-e-mail\/","title":{"rendered":"Can Social Networking tools replace e-mail?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A colleague, <a href=\"http:\/\/elsua.net\/\">IBMer Luis Suarez<\/a>, wrote an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2008\/06\/29\/jobs\/29pre.html?_r=1&amp;oref=slogin\">article in the NYtimes<\/a> on how he is using Social Networking tools to reduce the use of e-mail.&nbsp; And I quote<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>E-mail can become extinct, if not repurposed altogether, even at big companies like I.B.M. An e-mail in-box no longer needs to be like Pandora&#8217;s box.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>I am not sure whether I totally agree with this &#8230; there is still a place for e-mail.&nbsp; As another <a href=\"http:\/\/www.edbrill.com\/ebrill\/edbrill.nsf\/dx\/new-york-times-i-freed-myself-from-e-mails-grip?opendocument&amp;comments\">IBMer Ed Brill say<\/a> and I quote<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Even if you move all of your collaboration to other tools, there still needs to be a prompt, a push, a tickle, an alert &#8230; something that draws you into the collaboration.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>And this push or tickle as Ed calls it is usually via email.
