{"id":725,"date":"2010-04-04T09:47:42","date_gmt":"2010-04-04T07:47:42","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2010-04-04T09:47:42","modified_gmt":"2010-04-04T07:47:42","slug":"ubuntu-jobs-what-does-it-take-to-work-for-canonical-i-am-asking","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.henriska.com\/blog\/2010\/04\/ubuntu-jobs-what-does-it-take-to-work-for-canonical-i-am-asking\/","title":{"rendered":"Ubuntu Jobs: What does it take to work for Canonical &#8211; I am asking?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I suppose there is lots like me that <a href=\"http:\/\/webapps.ubuntu.com\/employment\/\">would love to work<\/a> for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.canonical.com\/%20\">Canonical.<\/a>&nbsp; Now there is the why and the what.&nbsp; Here is my why and hopefully my readers can pitch in with the what part.<\/p>\n<p>So why?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I believe in what Canonical is trying to achieve with Ubuntu and the way they are going about doing it.&nbsp; <\/li>\n<li>I use Ubuntu daily as both my work machine and also my home and entertainment machine.<\/li>\n<li>It would be great to be able to say that I had a small part of bringing Ubuntu to the world.&nbsp; Had some small part already in doing some <a href=\"https:\/\/translations.launchpad.net\/%7Emarius\">translations<\/a> and reporting some <a href=\"https:\/\/bugs.launchpad.net\/%7Emarius\">bugs<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Working with the best there is, is just awesome.<\/li>\n<li>I can work at home in the beautiful Cape Town and at the same time travel to other destinations all over the world.<\/li>\n<li>I am a professional Project Manager and believe that with my experience and skills, I can contribute and add value to the process of bringing each Ubuntu release to market.&nbsp; Running time-based projects is not the easiest of things particularly when the resources delivering that is spread across the world.<\/li>\n<li>Since Ubuntu has it&#8217;s roots in South Africa, I would love to work for Ubuntu as a South African.&nbsp; About time some South African blood and culture gets added to the Canonical mix :).&nbsp; From what I believe, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.markshuttleworth.com\/%20\">Mark<\/a> is the sole South African working at Canonical.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Some of the jobs that would suit me:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/webapps.ubuntu.com\/employment\/canonical_URM\">Ubuntu Release Manager<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/webapps.ubuntu.com\/employment\/canonical_RPM\">Release Project Manager<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/webapps.ubuntu.com\/employment\/canonical_TPM\">Tools Project Manager<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So what do you think it would take to work for Canonical?&nbsp; Here is some that I have come up with:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Be able to operate in a global diverse team.<\/li>\n<li>Be able to work across various timezones.<\/li>\n<li>Be able to diligent, logical and precise.<\/li>\n<li>Have great time-management skills.<\/li>\n<li>Have great communication skills particularly electronic communication skills.<\/li>\n<li>Be great at what you doing &#8230; in my case Project Management.<\/li>\n<li>Be passionate about Open Source and the promotion of the Open Source environment.<\/li>\n<li>Be innovative and prepared to change and accept change.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Technorati Tags: <a class=\"performancingtags\" href=\"http:\/\/technorati.com\/tag\/canonical\" rel=\"tag\">canonical<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I suppose there is lots like me that would love to work for Canonical.&nbsp; Now there is the why and the what.&nbsp; Here is my why and hopefully my readers can pitch in with the what part.
