The last thing bloggers want to see.

I just visited the blog of a well known blogger here in SA after reading his latest posting in my RSS reader. This is what greeted me:

I have blotted out the server name so that no-one can detect whose blog it is. I suppose this is something all of us bloggers that host our own blogs have to deal with. Databases that can go down or endless hassles when upgrading software as Max found out.

LOLOLOL.. I’ve seen that it’s been happening a lot lately with the new upgrade to WP2.2+ so I don’t feel like a TOTAL mampara.
The new sidebar addition to the inbuilt offering for self hosted is very exciting >> UNLESS of course you’ve been using the AWESOME (& still superior version) in K2. The combo causes an almighty crash, but for anyone who is running K2 and upgrading to WP2.2 – there is now a plugin to Save Our Sanity!
upload & activate, disable the rest of your plugins before upgrading as usual.. and you’ll avoid the shock of the WP Error screen

I must say I have been lucky so far (touch wood) in upgrading. Even my test server that runs K2 has behaved during the upgrades. But as you say – disable plugins and follow the process and you would mostly be fine.
